Sarah Winter Senior Solicitor, Business, Corporate & Commercial

Sarah joined Blackadders in 2006 from a large European law firm’s London office and has since requalified in Scots law after spending eight months with a large Australian law firm’s Melbourne practice.

Sarah’s experience includes extensive work on business sales and acquisitions, MBOs and franchising agreements as well as advising banks on facility and security documentation. Her expertise also encompasses a broad range of commercial contracts and advice to the not-for-profit and charitable sectors.

Craig Smith Senior Solicitor, Business, Commercial Property

Craig was born and educated in Fife and graduated from the University of Dundee in 2003 following which he returned to Fife to commence his legal traineeship. Throughout his training, Craig gained invaluable experience in a wealth of both domestic and commercial conveyancing transactions alike.

Craig joined Blackadders in 2006 to take up a position within the dedicated team in Commercial Property as Assistant Solicitor and now specialises exclusively in Commercial Property work including all aspects of acquisition and disposal, funding and securities and in particular commercial leasing matters from both landlord and tenant perspectives.

Ken Scott Associate, Business, Commercial Property

Ken graduated from the University of Dundee and has worked in both Edinburgh and Fife as well as in Dundee. He specialises in the purchase, sale and leasing of commercial property, the preparation of security over heritable and moveable assets, the purchase and sale of businesses, partnership law, company law and the provision of general advice on business law matters.

He is a part time tutor on the Company Law and Commercial course on the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Dundee.

Joanne Grimmond Senior Solicitor, Private Client, Property Services

Joanne studied Law at the University of Dundee. She graduated in 2003, obtaining her LLB with honours and in 2004 completed her Diploma in Legal Practice.

Stephanie completed her Law Degree at the University of Glasgow and thereafter her Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Dundee.

Laura McDowall Senior Solicitor, Private Client

Laura graduated in 2005 from the University of Dundee with a first class honours degree and completed her diploma in legal practice in 2006.

She joined Blackadders as a trainee solicitor in 2006 qualifying 2008. Since qualifying Laura has worked as a solicitor in our Private Client Division dealing with Wills, Trusts, Tax, Charities and Adults with Incapacity including Powers of Attorney, Guardianship Orders and Financial Management.

In September 2010 Laura was admitted as a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners after being awarded the STEP Diploma for Scotland (Trusts and Estates) with Distinction. Laura was also named “Taxation of Trusts and Estates Student of the Year (Scotland)” at the STEP Excellence Awards 2010 in London.

Laura is also a Notary Public and on the management committee of local charity Advocating Together (Dundee).

Heather Lyle Consultant, Accredited Employment Law Specialist

Heather was educated at the University of Dundee. She trained and worked in Aberdeen for a period before returning to her native Dundee in 1994 to take up the post with Blackadders. In 1996 she joined Partner Sandy Meiklejohn to form the firm's Employment Law Team and since the late 1990s has worked exclusively in the field of employment law.

Heather specialises in advising employers on the full spectrum of employment issues that can arise in the workplace, from advertisement through to exit.

She is regularly called upon to provide employment law training sessions to clients and other professional groups on the East Coast of Scotland. Over the past number of years she has also been invited to provide training sessions to the North East CIPD group and also by the Scottish Building Federation. The training ranges from bespoke sessions based on individual terms and conditions to sessions dedicated to thorny issues such as managing absence and conducting disciplinary hearings.

Kyle Moir Senior Solicitor, Business, Commercial Property

Kyle studied Law at the University of Dundee. He graduated in 2004, obtaining his LLB with honours and in 2005 gained his Diploma in Legal Practice, before completing his traineeship in Dundee.

Since joining Blackadders in 2007 Kyle has worked with David Milne in the Commercial Property Unit dealing with a variety of commercial property and construction transactions. Including all aspects of property acquisition, development, disposal, funding and securities, commercial leasing, collateral warranties, letters of appointment, as well as general property and construction matters for a wide range of private, corporate and institutional clients.

Kyle is currently undertaking a Masters Degree in Construction Law at Strathclyde University.

Gary Mannion Solicitor, Private Client, Member - Association of Personal Injury Lawyers

Jennifer Gallagher Associate, Family Law, Accredited Family Mediator, Accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Family Law

Jennifer graduated from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in 1996 with an honours degree in Law. She was admitted as a solicitor in 1998 and spent her early career working in Glasgow and the Central Belt. Before joining the Blackadders Family Law team, Jennifer was a Partner with a well respected Lanarkshire firm, carrying on general civil court work with an emphasis on family cases.

Jennifer carries on all types of family cases including divorce, separation, contact and residence disputes. She aims to offer clients sound, practical advice as well as support and sensitivity during what can be an extremely emotional and difficult time. Jennifer has a particular interest in child law. Jennifer is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a family mediator. She is also fully trained as a collaborative lawyer. Elena Carlisle Solicitor, Family Law

Elena graduated from the University of Dundee in 2004 with an LLB Hons degree in English Law with French. She then returned to the University of Dundee to undertake a conversion to Scots Law and subsequently the Diploma in Legal Practice.  Elena completed her traineeship with a Dundee firm and joined Blackadders’ Family Law team in January 2010.

Janet Hood Consultant, Business, Licensing, Accredited Liquor Licensing Specialist

Janet specialises in liquor licensing and other legislation relevant to businesses involved in retail, hospitality and tourism in Scotland. She is the only liquor licensing accredited specialist in Tayside and Angus has extensive experience working with both licensees and local authorities and is an active member of a number of Scottish Executive committees concerning alcohol. She is Council and Board member of the Law Society of Scotland and is a participant on the Law Society of Scotland's Licensing Law Reform Committee. Janet is a board member of the Scottish Tourism Forum, a council member of the British Institute of Innkeepers and is a member of the Scottish Trade Licensing Association.

Janet has a remit to develop Blackadders' offering in the hospitality, licensing and tourism sector through positive engagement with our existing clients and by identifying new clients amongst her many and varied contacts in the industry.

Willie Henry,Consultant, Business, Agriculture & Rural Affairs

Willie has extensive experience in agriculture and rural affairs, gained over 40 years in the profession. On completion of his law degree, Willie joined his father in the legal practice of Williamson & Henry, Solicitors, Kirkcudbright, a practice with a significant emphasis on agriculture and rural affairs. In the ensuing years, in developing his interest in all matters of agriculture and rural law in an area of Scotland renowned for its stock rearing and dairying enterprises, he specialised in agriculture and rural issues, including the sale and purchase of farms and issues of landlord and tenant.

In 2008 Willie moved from Williamson & Henry to take up a consultancy with Turcan Connell in Edinburgh, again with a distinct emphasis on agriculture and rural issues.

For a long number of years, Willie has been a member of the Rural Affairs Committee of The Law Society of Scotland. He chairs the Committee on Specialist Accreditation in Agricultural Law and has chaired various Law Society and other seminars on agricultural and rural law issues. Willie is a member of both The Agricultural Law Association and The Scottish Agricultural Arbiters and Valuers Association.

Taleen Strachan,Solicitor, Forfar

Taleen, originally from Aberdeen, studied Law at the University of Edinburgh and graduated in 2006 with LLB honours. She continued her studies in Edinburgh and in 2007 completed the Diploma of Legal Practice. After a brief period working in Edinburgh, Taleen joined the Blackadders Conveyancing team in 2010 to complete her traineeship. She now continues to work in Conveyancing as a Solicitor.

Jack Boyle

Jack was born in Dundee and studied Law at the University of Dundee. He graduated in 2008, obtaining his LLB with honours. He subsequently completed the Diploma in Legal Practice in 2009.

Jack joined Blackadders in 2009 as a trainee solicitor where he has gained valuable training and experience in each of our commercial, court and private client departments. Jack spent a large part of his traineeship working with Sandy and Simon in the employment law team.

Anne Cornelius

Anne holds a law degree from Edinburgh University and studied European law in Germany before qualifying as a solicitor in 1996.

Anne specialises in commercial litigation and has a particular interest in the protection of intellectual property rights. She has extensive experience of representing clients in both the Sheriff Court and the Court of Session. Her recent work in the commercial court of the Court of Session includes acting for a corporate pursuer to recover money wrongly claimed in dividends by a company director and a number of minority shareholder petitions in addition to a number of high value commercial contract disputes.
