Simon Allison is a Partner in our Employment team. He has specialised in employment law for over 10 years with a particular focus on contentious matters. Simon regularly appears before Employment Tribunals and the Employment Appeal Tribunal, predominately for employers. He also gives advice in relation to a wide variety of employment law issues and is involved in providing employment law training for managers and HR professionals across the UK. Biography

Colin is well known within legal circles in Edinburgh. He was educated at The Royal High School, and went on to study law at Edinburgh University, graduating with Honours in 1981. After an apprenticeship with Murray Beith & Murray and stints with two Edinburgh firms, he set up his own firm in 1988, building up a successful business based on high quality legal advice and support to a wide range of clients before becoming a Partner with Blackadders following the merger of the two firms in October 2014. He has a particular interest in, and vast experience of, advising in all aspects of sale and purchase of residential property, whether for owner occupation or investment and is now acting for the second and even third generations of some of his original clients. His other private client work has included preparation of wills, Powers of Attorney and executries.

Away from work, whilst Colin was a keen rugby player as a young man, he now enjoys the game as a spectator. He also has a keen interest in classic cars, in particular Lancias and enjoys attending classic car shows in Scotland and beyond.

Biography

Robert (Rab) Forman is a well known figure in private legal circles within the Edinburgh area.  He has served the firm and its predecessors, McKay Norwell, in various roles over the past 35 years. 

He is an experienced general practitioner and is engaged in a wide spectrum of instructions covering general private work including Wills, Estates and preservation of assets for an older generation of clients.

He has also been involved as lead solicitor in a number of important legal cases, including Micro Leisure Limited v County Properties and Developments (non cash asset transactions between Companies) and North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organisation v Au Bar (extent of land boundaries as defined by a Land Certificate).

Biography

Since qualifying in 1994, Gareth has been involved in dealing with civil Court matters, and dispute work. His emphasis in recent years has been family law, dealing with financial provision on divorce, and issues relating to children, including the area of adoption and permanency orders.

Gareth is regularly appointed by Aberdeen Sheriff Court to prepare reports in unresolved child cases. Gareth is a collaborative family lawyer, and is a strong advocate for resolving family matters without resort to litigation. In the event that litigation is necessary, Gareth has a wealth of experience having appeared in courts in the North East of Scotland throughout his career. His experience has led him to be involved in a number of high value cases, including cohabitation. He has also been involved in arguing appeals to the Sheriff Principal in cases relating to children.

Laura has specialised in Adults with Incapacity for a number of years now and acts for individuals, charities and local authorities. Ryan is a Partner in our Dispute Resolution team and is involved in all matters of a contentious nature, with a particular emphasis on commercial disputes, property litigation, insolvency and debt recovery matters.

While Ryan appears regularly in Sheriff Courts all over Scotland, he has also acted as the instructing solicitor in a number of high value disputes in the Court of Session. Ryan has significant experience of litigating under the commercial procedure available at both the Court of Session and a growing number of Sheriff Courts. He also has a keen interest in the law of insolvency and is regularly instructed to act on behalf of liquidators, administrators, trustees and those subjects to insolvency proceedings. Ryan also receives regular instructions from landlord clients in relation to lease enforcement. 

In addition to more traditional commercial litigation, Ryan also has extensive experience in Debt Recovery and has, in recent years, come as 'recommended' in the Legal 500 publication in this regard.

Being dual qualified under Scottish Law and the Law of England & Wales, Ryan is able to advise on any cross-border issues that may arise in the course of an action.

  • Securing a high six figure settlement on behalf of a lending institution in relation to a firm of solicitors' failure to adequately report on title in a series of lending transactions.
  • Securing on a client's behalf a six figure settlement from a chartered surveyors practice as a result of their over-valuation of a high end property.
  • Successfully executing a 'dawn raid' in terms of Section 1 of the Administration of Justice (Scotland) Act 1972 against a clients' former employee in order to recover a significant number of documents that contained both confidential and commercially sensitive information.
  • Successfully obtaining on behalf of a company in administration an interdict against a director of the company prohibiting him from attempting to exercise any form of 'management power' within the meaning of paragraph 64(2) of Schedule B1 to the Insolvency Act 1986 while the company was in administration.
  • Successfully arguing before the Sheriff Principal (and eventually in the Inner House), that a secured creditor was entitled to petition for a debtor's bankruptcy notwithstanding that the property subject to the security had been repossessed, albeit not yet sold by the creditor.

Biography

Steve was educated at Arbroath High School and the University of Dundee, and joined Blackadders as a partner in 1984.

Steve's areas of specialisation are in Conveyancing, Wills, Trusts and Executries, Powers of Attorney and the management of financial affairs.

He is a past President of the Rotary Club of Carnoustie and a past Secretary and President of the Panmure Businessmen's Club Carnoustie. Steve is also a past President of the local football club Carnoustie Panmure F.C.

Biography

Scott is a lawyer in our Trust, Tax, Care and Guardianship Unit. He has a wide variety of experience in private client work, including making Wills and Powers of Attorney, administering Estates, Trust Creation and Administration and the management of the financial affairs of many elderly and less capable clients.

Scott is also involved in charity work, setting up, and running charities and being involved as a Charity Trustee. His clients are mainly individuals - of all ages, Trustees and Attorneys.

Scott has specialised in Trusts for a number of years now and is a Law Society Accredited specialist and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners - STEP. As a Notary Public he is also one of very few British members of the International Union of Notaries.
