Biography

Simon Allison leads Blackadders' Employment Law team. He has specialised in employment law for over 10 years with a particular focus on contentious matters. Simon regularly appears before Employment Tribunals and the Employment Appeal Tribunal, predominately for employers. He also gives advice in relation to a wide variety of employment law issues and is involved in providing employment law training for managers and HR professionals across the UK. Simon is a member of the Employment Law Group and the Employment Lawyers Association.

Work Highlights

  • Successfully resisting various types of claim under the Equality Act 2010
  • Advising and assisting in collective and individual consultations for a large-scale redundancy process.
  • Representing a small employer at employment tribunal and recovering in excess of £1,000 in expenses from the ex-employee claimant.
  • Advising and assisting in relation to various complex claims under the TUPE Regulations.
  • Successfully resisting an unfair dismissal claim at tribunal and recovering in excess of £40,000 in training fees from ex-employee

Biography

Jack Boyle is an associate solicitor in our employment team.  Jack has a particular focus on contentious employment law, appearing regularly in the employment tribunals for both employers and employees. Jack participates regularly in employment law seminars and training events on all aspects of employment law.  Jack is also a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

Jack has a particular interest in regulatory law, advising registered workers in connection with various matters relating to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), including representation at SSSC hearings.

Work Highlights

  • Successfully defending a high-value employment tribunal claim for associative disability discrimination for a small employer
  • Securing a successful outcome for an employee in a high profile TUPE case following a ruling at the Employment Appeal Tribunal
  • Advising various employees in connection with settlement agreements including large scale voluntary severance schemes
  • Assisting a number of individuals in retaining their SSSC registration
  • Winning compensation of two years’ wage loss for a young apprentice

Biography

Ruth Weir works as a senior solicitor within our Corporate and Commercial Team.

Ruth joined Blackadders after working in-house for a multi-million pound sporting organisation, advising on media and broadcasting rights, brand management and data protection compliance.  Ruth provide clients with corporate and commercial advice in a variety of areas, including equity investment, business sales and purchases, share buybacks and corporate governance.  She also regularly advises on management and protection of intellectual property.

Ruth has developed a particular interest in data protection and compliance and is able to assist clients in meeting requirements under the Data Protection Act as well as the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation.  Ruth regularly works with the Employment team providing advice and guidance to employers on the collection and use of employee data, privacy policies and subject access requests.

Outside of work, Ruth sits on the board of directors for HELM Training Limited.

Biography

Sarah is an Associate Solicitor in Blackadders' Business team.  Sarah advises on corporate, commercial and employment matters and works with various sectors with a special interest in charities.  Sarah and her team advise clients from not for profit organisations and privately-held companies to major PLCs and large corporations with global operations.  Sarah was recently seconded to OSRC, the Scottish Charities Regulator, gaining invaluable experience and specialist knowledge of regulatory work.  

Sarah recently returned from a position with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, where she gained a valuable understanding of OSCR's regulatory approach.  Sarah can assist charities or those thinking about setting up a charity from set up to dissolution.

  • Advising on and project managing conversions of charities to SCIO, a legal form of charity regulated solely by OSCR
  • Advising on and project managing business acquisitions, disposals and MBOs
  • Drafting charities’ governing documents reflecting their operational and management structures
