The Council of Mortgage Lenders has recently said that the contraction in UK mortgage lending since 2007 has been the most severe on record. It also noted that housing transactions have fallen to their lowest levels since records began. Readers of previous blogs will know that I am very concerned with the issues regarding mortgage lending, in particular the restrictions on first time buyers to access borrowing on a sufficient level to allow them to get onto the housing market.
I also read that people who are considering joining the gym this month to shift the festive calories would be best to delay until they have a mortgage approved as due to the proposed new FSA Regulations, banks will take into account all items of expenditure in terms of assessing mortgage suitability.
