Mediation is a voluntary process in which both parties try to reach agreement on the issues between them. This aims to resolve disputes and avoid potentially costly litigation.
What is Mediation?
Mediation is when an independent party, known as a mediator, helps both sides to reach an agreement.
Both parties must be willing to attend sessions together.
If an agreement is reached then a solicitor will prepare a formal agreement.
Benefits of mediation
Mediation allows the couple to control the decision-making process. This in turn, enables better lines of communication to be established following separation.
This method costs considerably less, as it does not involve a court case.
It can also help to avoid blame, as parties are more likely to work together during the process.
