Biography

Johnston Clark is the Managing Partner of Blackadders LLP, Chief Executive of Blackadders Wealth Management and Head the Private Client division. Biography

Robert (Rab) Forman is a well known figure in private legal circles within the Edinburgh area.  He has served the firm and its predecessors, McKay Norwell, in various roles over the past 35 years. 

He is an experienced general practitioner and is engaged in a wide spectrum of instructions covering general private work including Wills, Estates and preservation of assets for an older generation of clients.

He has also been involved as lead solicitor in a number of important legal cases, including Micro Leisure Limited v County Properties and Developments (non cash asset transactions between Companies) and North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organisation v Au Bar (extent of land boundaries as defined by a Land Certificate).

He is currently on the Council of the Scottish Law Agents Society.  He is Chairman of the East of Scotland Salvation Army Advisory Board.  He has been on the Council of the WS Society and is a former member of the Law Society Client Relations Committee.

Biography

Laura joined Blackadders in 2006 after graduating from the University of Dundee with a first class honours degree and diploma in legal practice.

Laura is now a Partner in our Private Client Division. She has experience in dealing with Wills, Trusts, Taxation, Charities, Executry Estates and Adults with Incapacity including Powers of Attorney, Guardianship Orders and Financial Management.

Laura has specialised in Adults with Incapacity for a number of years now and acts for individuals, charities and local authorities. She has developed considerable expertise in dealing with incapable adults of all ages and with arranging financial and welfare guardianships. Laura assisted in the development of our guardianship unit and is now instructed by local authorities to assist with their duty to make arrangement for financial intervention and guardianship orders. She also receives referrals from social work departments and other firms of solicitors.

Biography

David was born in Aberdeenshire and educated at Aberdeen University, graduating in 1979. After serving his Apprenticeship in Aberdeen, he joined the then Firm of Condie Mackenzie and Company in Perth in 1981, becoming a Partner in 1985. He became a Partner in Blackadders following the merger of the two Firms in October 2014. Throughout his career he has been involved in all aspects of Chamber Practice with particular emphasis on Trusts and Executry work, Inheritance Tax Planning and Powers of Attorney. For many years he was Vice Chairman of the Perthshire Solicitors Property Centre.

Peter was born in Bridge of Allan and educated at Dollar Academy, Aberdeen Grammar School and Aberdeen University qualifying as a Solicitor in 1979.

Peter has been in private practice for 35 years having previously been a partner of the well respected Adam Cochran since 1982. Biography

Scott is a lawyer in our Trust, Tax, Care and Guardianship Unit. He has a wide variety of experience in private client work, including making Wills and Powers of Attorney, administering Estates, Trust Creation and Administration and the management of the financial affairs of many elderly and less capable clients.

Scott is also involved in charity work, setting up, and running charities and being involved as a Charity Trustee. His clients are mainly individuals - of all ages, Trustees and Attorneys.

Scott has specialised in Trusts for a number of years now and is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners - STEP. As a Notary Public he is also one of very few British members of the International Union of Notaries.

Biography

Stewart joined the firm as a trainee in 2010, qualifying as a solicitor in 2012.  He has since progressed through the ranks and is now an Associate Solicitor in the firm’s Trusts Tax & Care Unit.

Stewart works on a broad range of private client matters for individuals and families:

  • Preparing Wills and Powers of Attorney, ranging from the very basic to the greatly complex;
  • Advising on succession and tax planning issues, including planning for “legal rights” situations, providing for disabled beneficiaries and mitigating liabilities for inheritance tax and capital gains tax;
  • Preparing and submitting guardianship applications for incapable adults, involving appearing in a number of Sheriff Courts across the country;
  • Assisting other solicitors with guardianships by preparing the “financial suitability reports” that they require as part of their own applications; and
  • Advising on issues involving trusts, including the creation, amendment and dissolution of charities, as well as the use of trusts for asset protection or wealth management within families. 

Stewart is also a tutor on the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Dundee, where he teaches in the core Private Client module as well as the Advanced Private Client elective.

Outside of work, Stewart is the clerk of the Fraternity of Masters and Seamen in Dundee, and he sits on the committee of the Tayside Young Professionals group

Louise is a senior solicitor in our Private Client division and joined Blackadders in 2015 after just over 8 years working in private client at another Edinburgh law firm. 

Louise is an experienced private client practitioner and can assist with the preparation of wills, powers of attorney, the administration of estates and planning for asset protection and inheritance tax purposes.  Louise is also experienced in the law relating to trusts and can advise on the establishment of trusts and their ongoing administration, including the tax treatment of trust funds and planning to minimise tax.
